Border Group RDA News
..

March 2010: "The group have started a vaulting session for their adult riders. It is a fantastic therapy. I have heard about the success stories from the kids session and it amazes me how it can improve balance, coordination and confidence in a short space of time.

As an adult rider I was offered a go and, although slightly hesitant, I couldn’t resist. It is strange not to be in control of the horse, having no reins or stirrups and trusting the horse completely..

Then the person at the end of the lunge rope asks you to do certain things.. like letting go of the huge handles in front of you. At this point you realise you have been holding on so tight your knuckles are white and as you release the grip you begin to understand that you’re not going anywhere.. you body begins to sway with the horses movement.. and you begin to relax.. and smile.
"

Four members of the Border Group, Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) recently competed at the Edinburgh and South of Scotland Regional Dressage Qualifiers.  The riders who are all affected by Multiple Sclerosis benefit from the balance and strength exercises of riding.  The event was held at the Drum, Edinburgh with over 40 riders competing from five RDA Groups across the Region.

First onto the winners podium was Nancy Anderson from Lauder riding Glen.  Riding in her first competition she achieved top marks in the Introduction to Dressage Test A.  Success quickly followed for Sandra Hay from Tweedbank also riding Glen and competing for the first time in the Introduction to Dressage Test C.  Team mate Suzie Ricketts from Scraesburgh, Jedburgh riding Blair in her first competition came a very close second in the same class.  The final member of the team, Jane Currie from Hawick, achieved runaway success in the Freestyle to Music class and a credible fourth in the Grade III Test 31.

The team would especially like to thank their trainers, Alison Buchanan and Dorrit Moon, and their support team who made the day possible.

DRESSAGE COMPETITION

19th November 2008 was the day of our adult dressage competition at the Border Group RDA.

Standards were high as all riders tried their best to impress the judge, Valerie Wares.

With so many helpers and classes, it is hard to keep in touch, so the committee thought a Newsletter would be helpful. Our newsletter is now sponsored by The Borders College.

Also, please check the notice board in the arena for updates and news!

Thank you, Irene.
